The number and quality of specialised personnel in Lesotho was enhanced under the project through the
successful implementation of nine fellowships. One short-term fellowship was aimed at improving management
capability through the organisation of a study tour to Ethiopia, Niger and Hong Kong. Three fellowships were awarded for M.Sc.
studies in agrometeorology, climatology and data processing, one at Class III level and another at Class II diploma level in
agrometeorology. This training not only enhanced the technical capability of the Lesotho Meteorological Service,
but also allowed it to increase the number of its WMO Class I meteorologists from two to six, representing a significant
growth. In addition, two staff members participated in the regional workshop on instrument calibration, while three
others participated in the regional workshop on data processing.
