Servicio Meteorolˇgico Nacional

Servicio Meteorolˇgico Nacional is the National Meteorological Service of El Salvador. The Director of Servicio Meteorolˇgico Nacional is the Permanent Representative of El Salvador with WMO.

The hydrological and meteorological services in EI Salvador were strongly affected by domestic conflicts in the 1980s. The number of personnel at the Servicio de Meteorologia e Hidrologia decreased drastically and the condition of meteorological, hydrological, telecommunications and dataprocessing systems collapsed. The Project started in El Salvador in 1992.

The Project restored half of the Meteorological and Hydrological Network, improved the national telecommunication network by 80%, and increased the quantity and quality of the personnel of the National Meteorological Serviceby 80%.

The Government of El Salvador was supportive to the Project by granting national funding and facilitating the support through its departments (eg.the Natural Resource Head Office and the Secretarial Office of Agricultural Planning in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Autonomous Executive Port Commission, the National Telecommunications Administration and the Air Transport Head 0ffice).
