Instituto de Sismologia, Vulcanologia, Meteorologia e Hidrologia, INSIVUMEH

Instituto de Sismologia, Vulcanologia, Meteorologia e Hidrologia is the National Meteorological Service of Guatemala. The Director of INSIVUMEH is the Permanent Representative of Guatemala with WMO.

After the termination of the Central American Hydrometeorological Project(PHCA) in the sixties, working conditions began to deteriorate in the Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Guatemala. This was largely due to the economic crisis and hence to the lack of the sustained funding necessary to the maintenance of the networks as well as to the acquisition of new equipment. Guatemala’s participation in the Project in 1992 made launching a rehabilitation plan possible.

The Project has undoubtedly fulfilled the expectation of a complete rehabilitation of the meteorological and hydrological services. It has been an important element in the reinstatement of the hydrometeorological network.
