The Finnish development co-operation programmes in the field of meteorology have all included
comprehensive education and training components. In the project budgets (ref. SADC 1987-1993 and CAI 1991-1995) 40 - 50 % of the funds were
directed to the education of meteorologists at academic level (M.Sc. and Ph. D. respectively) and education
and training of technicians and operators in the fields of meteorology, climatology, telecommunication,
data processing, data base, system administration and instrumentation and maintenance.
The share of women in the academic education programmes was 20 %.
