Project management

Management arrangements
The management of the two large regional development cooperation projects (ref SADC 1987-1993 and CAI 1991-1995) was arranged on a tripartite basis. The partners were the National Meteorological Services of the developing countries, the Regional Coordination Institution, the executing agencies and the Donor. The partners attended the annual tripartite review meetings of the project. The meetings reviewed the progress of the implementation and made recommendations for remedial actions. The project status was discussed within the wider framework of the regional meteorology programme at the annual meetings of the Regional Coordination Institution.

Responsibilities
The regional projects were jointly assisted by the WMO and FMI. The WMO was in charge of the education and training program and of the Project Coordinator and other experts in the field. The Project Co-ordinator was responsible for the day-today implementation of the project. FMI was responsible for the implementation of the equipment component of the project. This included provision of equipment for the observation networks, telecommunications and climate data management and of related expert services.

The project management in Sudan 1989-1994 and in Nicaragua 1998-2001 was carried out by the Chief Technical Adviser in the field.
